To help new employees transition smoothly into their roles and our company culture, we have implemented a Buddy System. Each new hire is paired with a Buddy—a more experienced team member—who serves as a go-to resource for questions, guidance, and insights on how things work at our company.

The goal of the Buddy System is to:

  • Provide guidance on company processes, culture, and expectations.
  • Offer a direct point of contact for questions about daily operations.

🗳️ How the Buddy System Works

1. Buddy Assignment

  • Each new employee is assigned a Buddy from their department or a closely related team.
  • Buddies are typically experienced team members who understand company processes and culture.
  • The assignment is communicated before the new employee's first day.

2. Buddy Responsibilities

  • Welcome & Introductions: Ensure the new hire feels welcome by introducing them to colleagues and key contacts.
  • Onboarding Support: Answer questions about daily tasks, company tools, and internal processes.
  • Cultural Guide: Provide insights into company values, team dynamics, and unwritten workplace norms.
  • Check-ins: Regularly check in with the new employee for the first few weeks to offer support and guidance.

3. New Employee Responsibilities

  • Be proactive in asking questions and seeking clarification.
  • Observe and learn from their Buddy’s experience.
  • Engage in team activities and build connections.
  • Provide feedback on the Buddy System to help improve the program.

 

⏱️ Duration of the Buddy System

  • The Buddy System typically lasts for the first 30-90 days of employment.
  • After this period, the new employee should feel confident navigating their role independently but can continue to seek support from their Buddy as needed.
